Teen girls are having less oral sex than they once did, according to a recent report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; but the numbers are still frighteningly high. According to the CDC report, about 41 percent of girls between the ages of 15 and 19 had received oral sex and 43 percent had given it. For guys, the disparity was wider: nearly half—47percent—reported receiving oral sex, while only 35 percent had given it. While some teens engage in oral sex because they believe it stops short of going “all the way,” the study shows that 5.1 percent of females and 6.5 percent who engage in oral sex actually stop there. The rest go on to have full-blown intercourse. Some researchers suggest the study emphasizes the importance of parents talking with their children about sex. “What we are up against is everything these kids see in the movies and what their parents’ comfort and discomfort is when they talk to them,” says psychologist Geoffrey Michaelson. “In all the advertising we say, ‘Talk to your kids about drugs.’ Where are the ads that say, ‘Talk to your kids about sex’?” (ABC News)
