More kids are graduating from American high schools than ever before, and some experts believe the graduation rate could soar to near 90 percent by the year 2020.
About 81 percent of the class of 2013 graduated within four years, according to the U.S. Department of Education. That’s up from 80 percent in 2012, which in turn was up from 79 percent from 2011.
That gradual improvement can be attributed to two big factors. First, black and Latino students are graduating in record numbers. Second, a number of states that have perennially trailed in graduation rates are doing much better now. Nevada, for instance, only graduated 62 percent of its students in 2011. By 2013, its graduation rate was up to 71 percent. (The Atlantic)
