There are all sorts of different parents out there: Parents who buy their children Happy Meals and parents who never give their children anything but organic tofu; parents who let their kids walk to school by themselves and parents who walk little Jimmy to his 11th-grade chemistry class. However, there are certain things most parents seem to agree on—the core values with which they want to pass on to future generations.
According to a new study by the Pew Research Center, 92 percent of parents believe that raising responsible children is important, with more than half saying it’s one of the most important traits a parent should teach. Raising hard workers trailed just a touch, with 92 percent saying it was important.
Passing along religious faith comparatively speaking was not considered as high a priority. While 31 percent of parents said it was “most important”—the third-highest response in the poll, trailing just “being responsible” and “hard work”—only 56 percent agreed transference of faith was “important.” The only value that ranked lower in that category was curiosity.
