In the name of safety, schools have banned all manner of items from the playground: guns, knives, medicine—and peanuts. Now in an effort to better safeguard its students and teachers, a school in Toronto has decided to ban something else: balls. Earl Beatty Public School announced soccer balls, baseballs, footballs, tennis balls and volleyballs are no longer welcome on school grounds, following several instances in which students or teachers were conked on their heads by the dangerous orbs. Nerf and sponge balls are still allowed on the premises…for now. “I think the principal is reacting in a rational way,” school trustee Sheila Cary-Meagher said, noting one student suffered a concussion after getting hit with a soccer ball. “You don’t want anyone to be injured.” Some parents are hoping the school backtracks on its temporary ban. One parent said his 6-year-old was so distraught that he wanted to change schools. (Fox News)
