Some parents may feel that whatever advice they give to their teenage sons and daughters fall on deaf ears, but according to a new study out of the Netherlands, that perception is not at all true. Underage alcohol abuse is a huge issue in the Netherlands, where about three-quarters of youth between the ages of 12 and 16 admit to drinking. Teens who said their parents enforced strict rules regarding drinking were less likely to imbibe—or be tempted to imbibe—if they saw a beer bottle or other alcoholic trigger. That’s key for these teens’ futures. The longer teens delay drinking, the less likely they’ll be to have problems with alcohol when they become adults. (National Public Radio)
