Two students from Riverhead High School in Riverhead, N.Y., were suspended after Tebowing—the act of bending a knee and bowing a head as if in prayer—in the school hallways during a passing period. Tebowing is named, of course, after Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow, who with his habit of bowing in prayer sparked an Internet sensation. The Web is rife with pictures of people Tebowing in odd places, but when about 40 students Tebowed in the hallway between classes at Riverhead, school officials had had enough. “It causes a potentially unsafe situation with 1,500 people in the building,” says Principal David Wicks. “If you have 40 kids kneeling down in the middle of a hallway, and God forbid a fire alarm goes off, they could potentially stop someone from getting to safety.” As a result, two of the 40 students—17-year-old twins Connor and Tyler Carroll—were suspended for a day. Officials say the suspension had nothing to do with Tebowing being a religious gesture. (Newsday.com)
