While the number of American students graduating from high school continues to tick up, fewer of them are ready for college.
Scores for the SAT—the Scholastic Aptitude Test that many universities use in their admissions and scholarship processes—are at the lowest level since 2005. The average test score was 1490 out of 2400, down about seven points from the year before.
Only about 42 percent of test takers are deemed to be prepared for college (for which they need to score at least a 1550), but those scores are more dismal among black students (16%) and Latino students (23%). (The Daily Beast)
