With an eye toward keeping teen drivers safer, Chevrolet is introducing some heavy-duty monitoring systems with its 2016 Malibu.
The new Malibu will allow parents to get an unprecedented peek at their teens’ driving habits from how many miles they’ve driven to how many times the Malibu’s active safety features were engaged. It automatically mutes the stereo until front-seat-riders buckle their safety belts. Oh, and parents can set a maximum speed for the car, too.
“We developed this system so parents could use it as a teaching tool with their kids,” says General Motors Safety Engineer MaryAnn Beebe. “They can discuss and reinforce safe driving habits.” (NBC News)
