The Backdrop
We all have our own stories—stories about growing up, relationships and about how we found (or are finding) God.
The What
The verse references from Psalm 107 below contain a story of someone’s spiritual journey, how he or she became desperate for God and how God met him or her in a time of need. Look these up in your Bible, or print the passages from a Bible website. As you read each passage, let yourself step into the story by doing the following:
• Describe in your own words the journey you see. Ask yourself how you’ve seen each story around you today in the lives of your friends and family. In fact, bear in mind you or one of your friends may have had or are having a similar journey.
• Keep track of what you see God doing in each passage.

The So What
The last verse of Psalm 107 states: “Let the one who is wise heed these and ponder the loving deeds of the Lord” (
So, let’s do that—ponder the loving deeds of God. First, what loving deeds of God did you see in the stories you just read?
Now to the loving deeds of God in your life…Let’s start with your story and use the pattern of how the stories were shared in Psalm 107. Journal your responses to the questions below.
What were you like without God in your life?
What was your moment of crisis that caused you to see your need for God?
When did you reach out to God?
How did God meet you when you reached out to Him? In other words, what were His loving deeds that ministered to your needs?
Seal the Deal
The second verse of Psalm 107 states: “Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story.”
You just told your story. Of course, you told it to yourself, the best person to start with; but as you deepen your understanding of the story of God in your life, you will be able to understand the redemption God has brought to you. You will know yourself as the redeemed, as in Psalm 107:2, then you will want to tell your story.
