The So What
These stories are presented in the classic before-and-after manner. How does each before situation (spiritual desperation) show up today? Do you have friends or family experiencing any of these before situations? Based on these four stories in Psalm 107, what’s the clear path out of those situations?
Putting into Practice: Story 5
So, what’s your story? As we mentioned, Psalm 107 opens with the exhortation, “Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story.” Take a minute to write your story in the fashion of Psalm 107: Describe your spiritual condition before Christ. What led you to reach out to God—your turning point? How did God meet you at your need? Your story may not be as dramatic as those in Psalm 107, but that’s OK. You likely can find parallels, though they may be subtle.
Now do this: Each of the four stories in Psalm 107 ended with the phrase, “Let them give thanks to the Lord for His unfailing love and His wonderful deeds for mankind.” So, end your story in the same way. Then share your story: Post it; chat it, Instagram it; or simply share it with a friend.
Finally, Palm 107:43, the closing verse of the chapter, says, “Let the One who is wise heed these things and ponder the loving deeds of the Lord.” Close your time by “heeding these things.” Take a minute to ruminate on the relationship between each before condition and how God delivered people from that condition, and then ponder the loving deeds of God.
